Industrial lubricant is oily or slippery substance which is interposed between two moving surfaces of a machine or engine in an effort to reduce friction, wear, surface fatigue, noise, heat generation, etc by keeping sliding parts apart. It also carries away pollutants and garbage and prevents corrosion and rust. It transfers heat and reduces heat generated by moving parts of a machine or engine. Thus lubricants play a major role in a machine or engine or industry.
There are several types of lubricants. One general basis we can categorize in fluid lubricants (mineral oils or petroleum oils), Semi-fluid lubricants (greases), solid lubricants (graphite), synthetic lubricants, and vegetable lubricants. On the other hand on the basis of application lubricants can be categorized in motor oils, turbine oils, way lubricants (slideway oils), greases, marine oils, cutting/grinding fluids, metalworking fluids, coolants, heat transfer fluids hydraulic oils, rust protection oils, compressor oils, forming oils, gear oils, engine oils, etc.
Motor Oil: Also known as engine oil is a type of fluid lubricants which is used to lubricate moving parts of a motor vehicle. Engine oils prevent corrosion and rust, cool the engine by reducing heat generation, and clean the engine parts from sludge.
Gear Oil: It is also a type of motor oil used in gear or gear boxes. Gear Oils reduce the friction and wear of the gear tooth surfaces, reduce heat generated by gears and also prevent corrosion and rust.
Grinding Fluid: Also known as Cutting Fluids or Metalworking Fluids or Coolants, it is a liquid lubricant used in metalworking operation or cutting and grinding process. Coolants reduce the friction and remove heat generated during metalworking process.
hydraulic oils: It is a liquid lubricant used in hydraulic system like hydraulic pump, oil filter, pistons, control valves, pipes, etc for transmitting power.
Compressor Oils: Compressor Oils are type of fluid lubricants used in moving metal parts of air compressors.
Slideway Oils: Slideway oils are specially designed for lubrication of slideways of metalworking machine tools.
Heat Transfer Fluids: Heat transfer fluids are specially designed for use in closed, forced circulation systems equipped with expansion tanks.
Marine Oils: Formulated with high quality base oil and the latest additive systems, marine oils are specially designed for marine propulsion engines and other applications.
There are also many other applications of industrial lubricants. Thus we see that lubricants play a vital role in machines and engines to run them smoothly.
